Threads are an increasingly popular option for treating sagging skin. Threads are made of dissolvable material (similar to surgical stitches) with small hooks along the thread; these tiny hooks bond with the skin and help to lift sagging skin. As the thread dissolves in the skin, it creates new collagen in its place. The impressive lifting results of this treatment are natural and long-lasting.

At Drs Tatiana + Rishi Advanced Aesthetics, we ensure that only highly trained doctors or surgeons carry out thread-lift treatments, so you can be sure that you are getting the highest possible standard of care. When considering a thread-lift treatment, we recommend that you start by booking in a consultation with the doctor. During the consultation we will assess the area of concern, answer any of your questions, show you examples of our work and develop an effective treatment plan for you.
On the day of treatment your doctor will confirm the treatment plan, take you through the consent process and take some pre-treatment photographs. The skin will be cleaned and numbing cream or numbing injections will be applied. Once the area is numb, the doctor will start the treatment. The process of inserting threads takes approximately 20-30 minutes. After treatment, the doctor will apply aftercare cream, apply a cooling pack and show you the results. We will also discuss how best to look after the area that has been treated. The receptionist will then offer you a review appointment and send you an email confirming the aftercare instructions.
Thread-lift treatments are suitable for lift and tighten sagging skin whilst also helping to restore volume to cheekbones. If this is a treatment that you are considering, we advise that you speak to one of our experienced doctors for advice. Threads are suitable for any skin type.
There are several circumstances in which threads would not be advised: pregnancy, breastfeeding, certain health problems, active acne or infection in the area of treatment, history of allergy to stitches or other products used in the treatment. The suitability of treatment will be discussed during your consultation.
No, you do not require a patch-test.
Optimal results can often be achieved in one to two sessions. If you require further treatment, then this is normally done after 3 months to allow the optimal effect of the threads to be seen.
The longevity of results will often depend on the area treated, product used and individual metabolism. On average, most patients will see good results from their treatment for around 18 months.
The injections themselves are not painful. We provide numbing cream, numbing injections and skin cooling to minimise any discomfort.
As with any injection, it is possible that you may experience some redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising. These may take a 2-3 days to resolve and bruises sometimes longer. We advise that you don’t plan treatments around important commitments and allow at least 2 weeks between treatment and an important social or work event.
Our injectable treatments are performed by fully trained and experienced doctors and surgeons. You can rest assured that you are getting the highest standard of care by every member of our team.
Threads will naturally dissolve in the skin and will disappear after around 6 months, leaving natural collagen in their place. If a thread needs to be removed for any reason, it can be done with a small incision into the skin using a needle.
We recommend that you avoid taking blood thinning tablets such as aspirin or ibuprofen (unless prescribed by your doctor) for 3 days prior to treatment. We also advise avoiding alcohol intake for 24 hours prior to treatment. It is also important that you are available for follow-up after treatment, so we recommend not to book this treatment if you are travelling in the next two weeks.
If you have a history of cold sores or shingles, we advise that you take anti-viral medication 2 days prior to treatment and 3 days after treatment to prevent a recurrence. Your doctor can prescribe this for you.
