Jowls

A jowl is the sagging skin that forms along the jawline, either side of the chin. Jowls often develop with age and are caused by 3 main factors: loss of facial volume, loosening of the skin and laxity of facial ligaments. These factors result in skin from the mid-face (cheeks) dropping down and forming nasolabial folds, marionette lines and jowls.

How to Treat Jowls

The main principles of treating jowls are restoring mid-face volume, lifting sagging skin and regenerating skin collagen.

Treatment Options

Profound RF is a break-through technology used to treat skin sagging, wrinkles and excess fat on the face, neck and body. Known as the ‘non-surgical face lift’, Profound RF is an injectable radiofrequency treatment that tightens, smoothens, hydrates and melts fat. In clinical trials, Profound RF was found to deliver 1/3 of the result of a surgical facelift in a single treatment and that 100% of patients had a clinically evident response to treatment.

Morpheus 8 is a device that combines microneedling with radiofrequency heat energy to tighten skin and underlying tissues. As the small needles enter the skin, the tips of the needles heat up with radiofrequency energy. This sends controlled heat energy into the dermis and stimulates collagen and elastin production, leading to tissue tightening. Morpheus 8 is safe for any skin type and can be used alongside other treatments such as dermal fillers.

SecretRF is an evolution of microneedling with radiofrequency. This device works by precisely inserting small needles into different depths of the skin, creating microchannels, with the subsequent delivery of radiofrequency heat energy to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, thereby tightening the skin and underlying tissue. The motor mechanism of the SecretRF is extremely smooth and it’s needles particularly precise and well-insulated, resulting in minimal downtime and being suitable for all skin types.

Dermal filler is a term used to describe a substance that is injected into the dermis of the skin in order to plump the area. Although there are many different types of fillers, the most popular are hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, which are naturally produced. Dermal fillers can have different structures and consistencies that make them more suitable for treatment of different areas. Dermal fillers can be used to restore mid-face (cheek) volume and sculpt the jawline, in order to reduce the appearance of sagging jowls. The procedure is not painful, does not require any significant down-time and is excellent at lifting and sculpting the skin, where volume needs to be replaced.

Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are thin threads, made from the same material as absorbable stitches, that hook into the skin and lift sagging skin. The threads gradually dissolve over several months and are replaced by new strands of collagen. PDO thread-lifts are often referred to as ‘non-surgical face lift’ or ‘puppet face lift’ due to their long-lasting and effective lift of sagging skin. The procedure is not painful, does not require any significant down-time and is excellent at lifting and tightening the skin, when volume is not required.

FaceTiteâ„¢ offers a safe and effective solution to lift and tighten loose skin whilst also reducing areas of unwanted fat. Common treatment areas include lower face sagging, facial wrinkles and jowls. The FDA-approved devices utilise radiofrequency energy delivered via a thin cannula to heat the tissue to a specific temperature. This heat energy causes contraction of fat and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to lift and tighten the skin. Using accurate temperature and energy sensing, we are able to monitor the treatment and ensure that we consistently deliver excellent results.
