Acne

Acne affects most people at some point in their lives. It is a long-term inflammatory condition caused by over-production of oil (sebum), congestion of dead skin cells, inflammation and bacterial colonisation. In order to successfully treat acne, it is important to address each of these causes.

AviClear is ground-breaking laser that is FDA approved for the treatment of acne. Clinical trials have found this laser to be as effective as Roaccutane without any of the systemic side effects. The laser works to specifically target and denature the sebaceous glands in the skin, minimising sebum production and clearing active acne. It can be used on all skin types with no downtime. Clinical studies found 30% acne clearance in 3 months 60% clearance in 6 months, and 90% clearance in 9 months.

A constructive and effective daily skincare programme is important in addressing the causes of acne. Ingredients such as salicylic acid, glycolic and retinol are helpful in reducing sebum production, improving skin exfoliation and reducing skin inflammation. Following a thorough consultation, your practitioner will recommend a tailored topical skin programme.

Fruit and other natural acids can be used to blend pigmentation, improve skin texture, and promote regeneration. Peels range from mild and refreshing to more intense and resurfacing. We offer a full range of Dr Tatiana’s own blend of chemical peels. Dr Tatiana has combined natural acids with anti-inflammatory ingredients to achieve optimal results, with minimal down-time.

Around 95% of people with acne will develop acne scars. Acne scarring occurs when acne irreversibly damages colour and texture of the skin. The debris within acne spots can rupture through the wall of the follicle and penetrate into the surrounding tissue, causing an inflammatory injury to the cells of the dermis and epidermis. This can lead to skin atrophy (holes), hypertrophy (raised nodules), pigmentation (dark marks) and enlargement of blood vessels (redness). The successful treatment of acne scars involves addressing these issues and enabling scarred skin to remodel into healthy, smooth skin. At the Dr Tatiana Clinic in London, we use a CO2 laser to effectively treat acne scarring. We normally recommend a course of 2-4 sessions to permanently treat acne scars.
